Develop: 90 Days to higher-performing teams

Updated by Amy Thomas

Managing teams is challenging, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Develop provides straightforward support through a calendar-driven, 90-day cycle that ensures consistent progress and makes team improvement a natural part of your routine. This guide explains how to get started and see real results in your team's performance.

Quick Start Guide (5 Minutes)

Your journey begins with these simple steps:

  1. Your admin will launch your team's first TEAMscan (or you can launch one yourself).
  2. Have your team complete the 5-minute survey.
  3. Review your TEAMscan report when 3+ people respond.
  4. Launch Coach Bo directly from your report for personalized guidance.

Everything beyond these basics is optional and available when you need it.

The 90-Day Growth Cycle: Your Calendar-Driven Path

We use 90-day improvement cycles because they provide enough time for real change while maintaining momentum. Each cycle connects directly to your team's existing meeting schedule:

Phase 1: Measure (Week 1)

When your TEAMscan launches, you'll receive insights into your team's dynamics across 17 key teamwork dimensions. This isn't just data - it's a tool to get your team talking about what's working and what could be better.

Phase 2: Focus (Weeks 2-3)

First, review your results based on your organization's approach:

  • Department-Led Focus (When your department leader chooses the focus): Your department leader selects one improvement area for all teams
  • Team-Led Focus (When you choose the focus): You select your team's focus area, aligned with department goals

Then, schedule one team discussion to review results together. Launch Bo from your TEAMscan report to get specific discussion guides and talking points. During this meeting:

  1. Share your team's strengths and celebrate what's working well
  2. Explore growth opportunities with curiosity
  3. Choose one specific skill to practice that aligns with your focus area
  4. Plan which recurring team meeting will include skill practice

Phase 3: Practice (Weeks 4-11)

Make skill development part of your regular calendar:

  1. Choose one existing team meeting for skill practice while focusing on one specific dimension and one specific skill. That’s it.
  2. Add a calendar reminder for the skill development portion
  3. Set aside 15-20 minutes during this meeting for guided practice
  4. Launch Bo from your skill page when you need fresh activities or discussion prompts

Bo will help you create activities tailored to your focus area:

  • Quick team exercises that fit into your meeting schedule
  • Discussion questions that spark meaningful conversations
  • Real-world scenarios your team can practice with
  • Simple ways to track progress over time

Phase 4: Review (Week 12)

During your regular team check-in:

  • Share specific examples of growth and learning
  • Celebrate both successes and learning moments
  • Gather team feedback on what worked best
  • Prepare for your next TEAMscan cycle
