Your Questions about Emotify Answered
Can I compare candidates across Emotify 1.0 and Emotify 2.0?
The scores for perceiving emotions and understanding emotions are equivalent across Emotify 1.0 and 2.0, and candidates scores on those two components of Emotify can be compared across versions.
However, the overall score for Emotify 2.0 includes performance on the emotion management task, and this task is not included in Emotify 1.0. For this reason, an overall score on Emotify 1.0 cannot be directly compared to an overall score on Emotify 2.0.
For example, a candidate who obtains an overall score of 50th percentile on Emotify 1.0 could score higher or lower on Emotify 2.0 depending on their performance on the emotion management task.
What are the differences between versions 1.0 and 2.0?
- NEW ABILITY ASSESSED: MANAGING EMOTIONS
Emotify 2.0 gives you a more comprehensive assessment of Emotional Intelligence, with the addition of a new mini-assessment called Emotions in Action that measures candidates’ ability to manage and regulate their own and other people’s emotions.
Emotify is based on the Cascading of Model of Emotional Intelligence, which includes three related abilities:
- The ability to perceive emotions in self and others, and
- The ability to understand those emotions, and
- The ability to manage or regulate those emotions.
While Emotify 1.0 assessed the first two abilities, Emotify 2.0 now includes the ability to manage emotions.
We’ve also removed several redundant items from the assessment, so the overall test length remains at 20 minutes.
- IMPROVED CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE
We’ve refreshed the look and feel to better align with the overall assessment experience and improve candidate reactions to the assessment. We’ve also optimised the assessment to download and run more quickly.

How can I update from using version 1.0 to version 2.0?
From 28 October 2021, any new jobs created will automatically use Emotify 2.0. From this date it will not be possible to create a new job using the old version of Emotify, as we will be deprecating this old version over time.
Any existing jobs will continue to use Emotify 1.0. These will be marked for update using an exclamation icon and you can then choose whether to upgrade these jobs to the new version. Click here to learn more about this.
You are able to upgrade any jobs that you can view in your Criteria account. Click here to learn more.
Once you upgrade a job to use Emotify 2.0, any candidates in that job who have completed Emotify 1.0 will be marked with an exclamation icon, indicating that they’ve completed the previous version of the assessment.
How can I experience the new version for myself?
If you would like to try the assessment prior to upgrading, then you can create a new “test” job and add Emotify to the test battery for that job. Invite yourself as a candidate to complete the test.
You can then choose whether or not to update your existing jobs.
