Description

The GAME is a mobile-first game-based assessment of cognitive aptitude, which evaluates candidates on many of the critical factors that contribute to on-the-job performance: critical thinking, problem solving ability, attention to detail, and the ability to learn and apply new information. Cognitive aptitude has proven to be one of the best predictors of job performance across a wide variety of jobs, based on findings from more than 22,000 studies including over 5 million participants (Ones, 2004). Individuals high in cognitive aptitude are more likely to be quick learners and high performers than individuals low in cognitive aptitude.

The GAME provides an innovative, fun approach to assessing cognitive aptitude and is popular with customers assessing for entry- to mid-level roles such as customer service representatives, retail salespeople, administrative assistants, machine operators and food service staff. As a measurement of cognitive aptitude, the GAME can be used in the employee selection process as an accurate and reliable predictor of future performance among job candidates.

Format

The GAME consists of three short and engaging games. Candidates complete three game-based tests, each with 40 question pairings.

  • In Robot Inspector, candidates are asked to identify if there are differences between two robot images.
  • In Words of a Feather, candidates are asked if pairs of words have similar or different meanings.
  • In Weigh Station, candidates are asked to identify which truck represents the greatest value after completing calculations of increasing complexity.

With each question having a 6 second time limit, candidates can complete the assessment in 5-6 minutes. The questions in GAME are adaptive to the candidate’s responses. When a candidate gets a question correct, they are provided a slightly more difficult question, and when they get a question wrong, they are presented with a slightly easier question. This means that a candidate’s ability can be much more accurately identified when compared to a static cognitive assessment.

Measures

The three game-based tests in GAME measure three core areas of cognitive aptitude:

  • Attention to detail is measured by the Robot Inspector game. This measures a candidate’s ability to focus on detail-oriented tasks with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Verbal reasoning is measured by the Words of a Feature game. This game measures a candidate’s reading ability and comprehension of words, which is related to communication skills.
  • Numerical reasoning is measured by the Weigh Station game. This game measures a candidate’s quantitative problem-solving and numerical fluency.

Score Reports

Each individual is given a percentile ranking, a relative performance metric that indicates how the individual scored in relation to others who have taken the test. For example, a percentile ranking of 65 means that an individual scored better than 65% of the group on which the test was normed.

Candidate Experience

The GAME uses a game format to evaluate candidates for job-related aptitudes. Candidates tend to prefer game-based assessments when compared to traditional assessments, experiencing greater motivation to complete and more engagement with the assessment.

The GAME is device-agnostic. This means candidates can take the test on any digital device they choose – a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop – in any location and at any time.
